How do I repair loose paper?
If you have a loose corner or a loose seam we recommend using wallpaper adhesive or a border adhesive, never Elmer's glue or craft glue. Gently lift up the loose paper and apply a small amount of glue with your finger. Allow the paper to soften about five minutes and press down with a clean damp cloth. Be sure to remove all glue residue from the surface. If the paper lifts up again, try heating the paper with a hair dryer, press down and clean. The older the paper the harder it will be to get the paper to stick. Good Luck!
How do I clean wallpaper?
Most wallpapers are washable except grass cloth string cloths and fabrics. These papers you may vacuum with your brush attachment. For all other papers I recommend a soap solution of dish liquid soap such as dawn and warm water. To spot clean, wring out cloth well and wipe. To wash an entire wall, wash from the bottom up to not make drips or runs. always test a small area before hand. Good Luck!
What is sizing?
Sizing the term used for preparing the walls for wallpaper. Its an old product and still made today and used by less experienced wallpaper hangers. Its nothing more than a very thin layer of wallpaper paste allowed to dry. We prefer premixed acrylic or oil base primers. We use the Cadillac of primers. Shieldz Primer by Zinser has a mold and mildew preventative and blocks stains. It holds the paper up good and helps with removal when we redecorate. Its the best product we have found and recommended by many wallpaper manufacturers.
Can I wallpaper over existing wallpaper?
We don't recommend it. But in some cases its the only way, when the first paper is bonded to the wall and will cause a lot of wall damage in stripping. Its necessary to prime the paper and we use Shieldz white pigment primer to prevent any pattern from showing. Of course if you have any loose seams and curled edges we recommend removal.
How much paper do I need?
Measure each wall in feet and multiply by height, this will give you the square footage of each wall. Add the figures of each wall together and divide by fifty. Fifty-five to sixty square is what you get on a double roll of paper. Use the calculate below for the number of rolls. Remember its best not to subtract for doors and windows to make sure you have enough materials. Of course for larger repeats we recommend allowing little more paper.
